Places within four hours of Columbus, Ohio (Part two)
It’s about time for a part-two of an article I wrote last year highlighting some places I’ve personally visited within four hours of Columbus, Ohio. I added a few more places to the original article, but thought instead of adding more to that one, I would just write a second. (Part one can be read here.)
I’ve written about a few of these places in other articles, but I thought a more succinct list might be easier to read and share with others. if you want to recommend some of these hidden gems in Ohio and other nearby states.
8 things that are free when traveling
Traveling costs money. No way around that. But, there are so many things that are free about travel that you shouldn’t take for granted. Yes, you have to pay for food. Yes, you have to pay for a place to stay. However, there are so many things that cost you $0.
I’ve mentioned this before, but getting out and exploring is just as much “traveling” as flying to Paris. Maybe not as exotic and dreamy, but you don’t have to shell out thousands of dollars to enjoy exploring, especially when you consider all the free things available to travelers.
Tips for a first-time backcountry camper
I have my husband to thank for opening me up to the wonders of camping. I loved to hike, be outside and enjoy nature, but I wouldn’t say I loved to sleep there. And the idea of going to the bathroom outside? Forget it. However, much to my original disdain, my husband’s love for camping drew me in. He talked about it with such a zeal and passion, that I had to try it… at least once.
The first time I went, I was not impressed. We went for one night, and all we did was hike into the woods and set up camp. We didn’t have a major hike or a body of water to look at; there were no breath-taking views. So my initial opinion on the matter was “what’s the point?” However, I was willing to try it again after purchasing a few more necessary items for women campers (since I was the first woman he’d taken, he couldn’t have prepared me for anything), and we went beach camping. Beach camping made me see the wonder. You had a private beach all to yourself! Only accessible for those brave enough to take a ferry that drops you off on an island with no electricity, no bathrooms, no nothing. It was wonderful.
Summer camping checklist and versatile items I love
This summer has been a crazy month of coming and going. Usually I’m way ahead of the game and write articles ahead of time to post, but I just haven’t been home long enough to do that! Luckily, however, some of my articles have been posted on the blog Travel Fashion Girl. This is one of my all-time favorite blogs, and am thrilled to be part of their regular writing team. I found this website years ago when I was looking to pack lighter, and still be fashionable! (Right now, I’m currently working furiously to redo capsule outfit combinations on a large portion of articles, which is making me even more excited to put together travel outfits. More on that later!)
