How exactly do you plan a trip?

  • May 05, 2016

I always have a trip planned.  And I’m not talking about those that I know for sure I’m going on, but ones that I’ve planned for the future.  There are a lot of places I want to visit, and I like to keep a running list.  I also like to have the itinerary, budget and number of days needed all figured out so I can simply look at the list and pick a place based on a number of factors.

Believe it or not, this enables me to be “spontaneous” and also satisfies my need to be planned and organized.  I already have many well-thought out trips, so when we find a time to go somewhere, I just pull up that list and pick a place.  Maybe we only have 4 days, so I can see what I’ve already planned for four days.  Maybe we only have $1,000, so I can see what I have planned for $1,000.  Maybe the time of year is a factor, and I want to see what I have planned for a winter destination.  This makes things a lot simpler.  Depending on how detailed I got in my trip planning, I may have already found restaurants and hotels (or Airbnbs) for places to make booking things even simpler.

  • August 08, 2015

Everyone knows that traveling in the car with others can be a stressful situation.  Everyone has different music preferences and bathroom schedules, but it doesn’t mean it has to be a headache.  There are things you can do to make the trip easier on yourself, and everyone else, so the journey part can just as fun as the destination.

5 things to always pack in your personal item

5 things to pack in your personal item

Some of us may have our carry-on packing down to a science, but what’s in that personal item of yours? When I am at home, my purse is full of everything but the kitchen sink. When I’m traveling, I have to be very selective of what goes in my purse and what stays home. I try to put things in my personal item that I need easiest access to, and things that you need in case of emergency.

You may intend to keep your carry-on with you at all times, but if you’re one of the unfortunate ones who is chosen to have their bag checked at the gate you may end up stuck without your carry-on. This happened to me. My flight was canceled and I didn’t receive my carry-on until the next day.

My personal airport style

Airport style
When I go to the airport, I like to wear something that is casual, comfortable and semi-stylish.  I really like to have all my items ready with me in my backpack, such as an over-sized scarf that keeps my neck warm, but also can be used as a blanket on frigid airplanes.

Allegiant Air and Rickenbacker Airport… I’ll Do It Again

  • July 07, 2015
Written by: Heidi Papworth
When my brother called me and suggested I come home for the Fourth of July cookout at his place, I told him that I hadn’t seen any money growing on the palm trees out front of my studio apartment.  After all, I don’t consider flying home to be cheap.  All of my recent trips from south Florida to Columbus have been an average of $400 round trip.  All of which included a layover somewhere, that made no sense, and a checked bag packed with about three coats.   So when he told me to look into Allegiant Air, which flew in and out of Rickenbacker airport, I was pleasantly willing to book a round-trip and direct flight for under $200!
