Trip-planning may seem daunting, but it’s not that hard.  Find out how easy it is with How to be Your Own Travel Agent.

I had so much fun making all these commercials.  I wanted to debunk some common trip-planning and vacation-saving woes through comedy, and I hope you enjoyed it.  If you’ve been following along for the last five weeks, I hope you enjoyed all 5 of them!

One thing people ask me when I describe my vacations are “how did you find that?”   The fact is, you have to be a little creative.  It’s not hard, but you do have to think things through.  There is so much stuff on the internet, it’s almost overwhelming.  It’s like walking into a store with 500 different kinds of pants.  They’re all slightly different, but you have to sift through every type, size, color and style.  It can make you feel like you need a personal shopper.

Trip-planning can be like that at times.  You have to sift through a lot of crap to get to the good stuff.  However, I’ve found that through a series of asking myself questions (which I lay out in the book), I get to the heart of what I really want and then I know exactly what to look for.  When you don’t know what you’re looking for, it can be even worse.  When you have a very specific idea of what you want, it becomes easier.

My system is to talk through my favorite and less favorite parts of travel, and narrow destinations down based on those factors.  For example, if you hate being in a plane for more than 5 hours, Australia might not be the place for you.  Once you start asking these questions, you can really narrow it down to just a few places, giving you more specificity.  Googling “fun beach trip” will bring up 375 million results.  That’s too broad.  However, if you’re able to be specific like “Cancun adventurous off-the-beaten-path”, you’ll see only 700,000 results (“only”).  I’m seeing some super cool things to do right outside of Cancun that would be more adventurous than just sitting around eating cheeseburgers for 5 days.  So being specific is important.

If you want my full system, you’ll have to read the book, but it’s been helpful for me!  I’ve found some incredible places to stay all over the world, and found some really cool activities and hidden gems.  It’s just a matter of asking yourself questions, and thinking it through.  It’s not that hard; it just takes some thought-process.
